"The Council of Elemental Masters cannot explain the disquiet affecting the elemental kami, and so they turn to forgotten or forbidden lore for answers".

Therefore, Phoenix it is (for me). Maybe also Crab, since they're the ones more closely related to the Shadowlands, even if they end up not being as taintable as they used to be.

Crab player base will probably get mad at us if we start crap, while the Phoenix has a story with maho and corrupting things.
I say we go with the Phoenix!

I'd say making the crab player base mad is actually a bonus...

That said, personally I'll just more or less be a ronin, playing whatever deck seems the most fun (aka most likely to win) until such time as there is a shadowlands/spider type faction.

I will herald the shadowlands wherever I can. Whatever deck is most corrupt is where I will probably be.

If there are no options then probably the most control or combo based deck in the game. I like decks with a lot of fun interactions.

So probably Phoenix, Crane, or Dragon.

I'm going back to my roots as a Damned or Kolat Crab ASAP until Shadowlands gets something playable. Hopefully the Yasuki family has some presence early on, or at least Taintzerkers.

I REALLY hope FFG doesn't dip from that same stupid well again.

Quite frankly, I adore the entire incorporation of the Prisoner's Dilemma hardwired into the system by the Honor Dial. As such, I will be using it at EVERY opportunity that will not cause me to lose the game.

I have reconciled myself to the fact that I will very likely be playing Dragon Dueling. And getting my bucket kicked all over the L5R map, but enjoying every second of it for the sheer joy of picking up that dial, meeting my opponent's gaze, and smiling. I just hope that this "heretical sect of Shinseism" is all about being doomed, and I can firmly reclaim my Doomsayer title.

Piggybacking on this... If the "heretical sect of Shinseism" involves the Dark Lotus I'll be up there as well.

That was such an interesting idea that never really got explored.

Just walk around constantly saying "Doom" and I'm sure it'll stick. =)

If Unicorn has Death Priests again, I may rock it out there for awhile.

I'll try for all of them. Waiting for the rules on playing "out-of-clan" cards to see how much I can combine, but I'll see if I can work out some "infiltration" theme.

You know it's entirely possible that FFG decides to call the court of Fu Leng, populated by his thralls and all those who have fallen in or fled into the Shadowlands over the centuries, the "Spider Clan". It's entirely possible that the Clans could someday discover that Fu Leng has himself a corrupt and ruined city of his own near the Festering Pit, where Moto Tsume, Tsukuro, Hida Atarasi, and the like hold court under his benevolent aura.

Maybe they'll even keep my favorite part of Fu Leng from BoJ, where he frequently gender hopped and had dozens of children by both his male and female thralls. Perhaps Daigotsu in this arc might even be one of them.

Part of me loves all thing Fu Leng and I'd enjoy this. The other part enjoys the portion where Daigotsu is the last Hantei.
All they have to do is make Fu Leng the wife of the Hantei! Yes, let it happen.

makes as much or morse sense than calling it "the lost" or "the shadowlands horde" (or horse, as my computer repeatedly tried to autocorrect that to).

i don't _hate_ Daigotsu as his. i always loved their weird, quasi-sibling/quasi-religious relationship. i think father/son relationship are super fraught with cliche narrative baggage, but if they can avoid those pitfalls i could see that being an interesting way to reinvent the character.

Do you have to win the Duel?

If not then you might be able to get all three depending on how rework everything.

this is a very good point. i'm was a pretty garbage ccg player, so assuming that my skills don't magically improve with the lcg, how well a given clan can do these things probably isn't really relevant.

I feel ya. Doubt I will be playing the newest iteration having most of my friends off for college, and not much money. If I was going to play though, it would probably be Crane, or Scorpion.

They happen to be the two I like most of the 7 people are getting back at the moment.

There is a lot of narrative room to move about in for the Story. Which is why I am holding back on any predictions.

However, I would also find a Spider Clan who live in the Shadowlands, ruled by Daigotsu, the corrupted child of Hantei XVIII and high priest of Fu Leng? Pretty awesome.

I'm probably just going to try to find what is top tier so I can maximize my chances of winning (which are already small enough) so I can cause as much chaos as possible :peasant:

My first clan, way back when, was Dragon. They have monks. They duel wield. They have combo Bushi-Shugenja. They generally DGAF. They are the clan with the most similarities to Spider. Back to Dragon for me, if I even play this new flavor. A big draw was the RPG, and the story impact participation had. If that is gone, and FFG is just releasing story packs with no real impact from events, I am not sure how motivated I might be.

So far Unicorn and Dragon are the most fun I've had with the game.

I am genuinely torn between Lion, Dragon, and Scorpion.

I like the sneaky tricks in Scorpion. I like the Voltron powerhouse and dueling in Dragon. I like the Shiny and Chrome breakneck speed of the Lion.

Making a decision is surprisingly tough.
